Important Travel Information: Upcoming Roadworks and Road Closures

We would like to make patients aware of significant roadworks and temporary road closures planned across the local area, which may affect travel times when attending appointments at the surgery.

A38/A368 Churchill Junction Improvement Scheme

North Somerset Council has commenced a major improvement project at the busy A38/A368 crossroads between Churchill and Langford. Work began in May 2026 and is expected to continue into early 2027.

The scheme will transform the existing crossroads into a new signal-controlled roundabout designed to:

  • Improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
  • Support increasing traffic volumes in the area.
  • Enhance bus services and public transport reliability.
  • Provide safer crossings for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Improve road safety for all users.

During construction there will be:

  • Lane closures.
  • Temporary traffic lights.
  • Changes to traffic management.
  • Periods of overnight working.
  • Potential delays on the A38, A368 and surrounding local roads.

Walford Avenue Closure – Weston-super-Mare

In addition, North Somerset Council has announced a temporary closure of Walford Avenue, Weston-super-Mare, from 8 June 2026 as part of infrastructure improvement works. The closure is expected to last approximately 22 weeks, with signed diversion routes in place.

What You Need to Know

If you are attending an appointment at the surgery, particularly if travelling from:

  • Churchill
  • Langford
  • Winscombe
  • Banwell
  • Weston-super-Mare
  • Bristol Airport corridor
  • The A38 route

please allow extra time for your journey.

Even if your usual route is not directly affected, traffic may be heavier on surrounding roads as drivers seek alternative routes.

Our Advice

✔ Check traffic conditions before travelling.
✔ Leave earlier than you normally would.
✔ Allow extra time for parking and unexpected delays.
✔ If you think you may be late, please contact the surgery as soon as possible.

These improvements are expected to provide long-term benefits to the local road network, but we appreciate that the works may cause disruption while they are underway. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in helping us keep appointments running smoothly for all patients
