Private Non-NHS Services

Non-NHS services are medical and administrative tasks not covered under the NHS. Due to this, some requests may require a private fee for the work carried out by GPs.

Requests will take between 4 to 6 weeks to complete. There maybe a requirement to make a pre-payment before your request is processed.

Please note, that not all requests can be completed. Each request is considered individually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Requests that we cannot complete
  • Capacity Assessments for financial purposes
  • LPOA (Lasting power of attorney forms
  • Extreme Sports (Marathons, Diving, Sky Diving)
  • Fitness to fly for pregnancy

If your request cannot be completed by the practice, we recommend contacting the organisation requesting the form to discuss alternative arrangements.

Unfortunately, we are unable to advise alternative private services.

Why is there a charge?

The NHS does not pay GP practices to provide private reports, letters, or certificates. Completing these requests takes clinical and administrative time away from NHS patient care. Charging for this work enables us to continue prioritising NHS services while offering private work where appropriate.

What is Private Work/Non-NHS Admin?

Non-NHS administration refers to work carried out by the GP practice that is not funded by the NHS. This includes completing forms, writing reports or letters, and providing medical information for purposes outside NHS care. This includes, insurance claims, private medical reports, employers, solicitors, or travel documentation. As this work falls outside the NHS contract, it may take longer to complete and a fee may apply.

Private Medicals

Private Medicals - include HGV/D4 Form, Taxi, DVLA, Camp America & Fostering/Adoption. The cost for a medical will be £125.00 (except for Fostering & requests direct from DVLA) The current time frame for a medical appointment is 4 to 6 weeks.

Why don’t we accept some forms/request?

A GP can only certify facts they know to be true from the patient's medical record or their own clinical knowledge. If a form asks them to comment on areas outside their expertise or knowledge, they may refuse.

If the requested information has never been assessed or documented, the GP cannot accurately complete that section.

Extreme Sports Medical Forms

GPs are generally unable to complete or sign medical forms for extreme sports or adventure activities. These assessments often require a specialist evaluation of your fitness to participate, which falls outside the NHS GP contract.

If you need medical clearance, you may be asked to arrange an assessment with a suitable qualified private doctor or specialist.

Please contact the activity provider to confirm exactly what type of medical certification they require before making any arrangements.

Why does it take between 4-6 weeks to complete my request?

Completing private forms is not part of the NHS services that GPs are contracted to provide. This means any private paperwork has to be completed alongside their NHS work, often outside of normal working hours. GPs have very busy workloads, and many spend additional time in the evenings and at weekends completing clinical paperwork. For this reason, it may take longer to complete private forms, and some practices or GPs may be unable to offer this service.
